A case has been registered under sections 420 (cheating) and Prevention of Corruption Act1988 yesterday against local BJP chief Jugraj Singh Katora, local BJYM head Jimmy Sandhu, DSP Balwinder Singh Sekhon, SHO Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha and Gurcharan Singh, police said today.
Meanwhile, Punjab BJP Chief Kamal Sharma today sought resignations from Katora and Sandhu, who were allegedly in touch with an agent who was trying to get a criminal out of the police custody.
It is alleged that the five persons were allegedly instrumental in helping Amritpal Singh and his father Jasvir Singh, booked earlier under the NDPS Act on June 20, 2015. To get out of police arrest by using their "influence" and "getting" money in exchange of work, police said.
