BJP-led NDMC hits out at AAP govt over salary hike proposal

Leader of House in the BJP-led North Corporation Yogender Chandolia today hit out at the AAP dispensation over its proposal to raise the salary of Delhi MLAs by 400 per cent, saying it shows the "hypocrisy" and "real face" of the Kejriwal government.
"On one hand, it is reducing the development funds of the corporation, on the other hand, it has plenty of money to increase MLAs salaries," he alleged.
A three-member committee chaired by former Secretary General of Lok Sabha PDT Achary, in its report submitted to Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, has favoured a 400 per cent hike in basic salary of MLAs from Rs 12,000 to Rs 50,000 per month.

Chandolia, a former North Delhi Mayor, also criticised the government's decision, citing the financial crisis faced by the civic body, including payment of salaries to sanitation workers.
"Our safai karamcharis had to go through financial problems due to acute shortage of funds. Development works of the corporation are suffering owing to Kejriwal government's unwillingness to release funds to the corporation. Pensioners have not received pension for more than a year," he alleged.
"And the Delhi government is raising the salaries of MLAs by many folds. Where will this money come from? Obviously it will be extracted from tax-payers' hard-earned money," he further alleged.
