BJP's Kashmir Displaced Unit has urged the Union government to "return and rehabilitate" Kashmiri Pandit community at "one place" in the Valley and demanded "political empowerment" for them.
In a memorandum submitted to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh yesterday, BJP's Kashmir Displaced Unit President T N Bhat demanded the "return and rehabilitation at one place in Kashmir valley".
The other demands raised in the memorandum include, "political empowerment of Kashmiri Pandit minority community".
They also demanded granting of minority status to the community in Jammu and Kashmir, waiver of education loan up to Rs 5 lakh and extension of grant and scholarship facility under various centrally-sponsored schemes.
Besides proper medical facilities, the unit also demanded the Union government to expedite the release of the compensation for the houses set on fire after the exodus.
The unit also sought a special employment package for the youth of the displaced community.
"A special economic package for overaged unemployed Kashmiri Pandit youths and compensation for agriculturists and orchardists who had to leave everything behind," the memorandum read.
The memorandum also pressed for an economic package for the traders of the community.
"We also demand the construction of hutments for the Kashmiri Pandit employees appointed under Prime Minister's Package in the Kashmir valley," it read.
The unit members have also demanded the removal of encroachment from the immovable property, including temple lands, agriculture land and orchards.
