A delegation of BJP and Shiv Sena leaders today petitioned President Pranab Mukherjee seeking a recall of Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan who rejected CBI's request to sanction prosecution of former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan in the Adarsh Housing Society scam.
The delegation led by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said the Governor "failed" in his duty in public interest by not granting sanction to prosecute Chavan.
"The Governor of Maharashtra failed to apply his mind in proper perspective. That the Governor even though in public interest was bound to grant sanction and allowed Shri Ashok Chavan to walk away.
"Under the circumstances, we request the Governor of Maharashtra must be re-called," the memorandum said.
The delegation members, that included BJP leaders Gopinath Munde, Anant Geete, Devendra Fadnvis, Vinod Tavade and Kirit Somaiya, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and RPI leader Ramdas Athawale, said they are concerned about the manner in which the Maharashtra Governor had rejected CBI's application asking for sanction to proceed against Chavan in the Adarsh scam.
They claimed there is enough evidence against Chavan in the Patil Commission report as it has stated that there exists prima facie case against the former CM.
