Even though he has heaped praise on Narendra Modi, Haryana BJP today remained firm about not allowing former Union Minister and Ambala MLA Venod Sharma into the party fold, alleging that he was an "opportunist".
The BJP is also against Sharma's joining its ally the Haryana Janhit Congress.
"Some people just want to be in power by hook or crook. As far as Venod Sharma is concerned, he is just an opportunist. Till yesterday, he was against us and our party. Now suddenly, he has changed colours, but then he is not the only Congress man who is praising Modi..," Haryana BJP president Ram Bilas Sharma told PTI.
"Venod Sharma and his colleagues in the Congress ran the Haryana Government like a private limited company for the last ten years. Today, (Chief Parliamentary Secretary) Dharambir Singh also held a rally (at Bhiwani), in which he revolted against his own government," he said.
"(INLD leader Abhay) Chautala is also praising Modi. So, therefore, Venod Sharma is not the only person (who is disgruntled with the Congress)," the BJP leader said.
Media reports had earlier said that Venod Sharma met senior BJP leaders as he desired to join the saffron party.
However, faced with resistance, he had later on tried to woo the HJC, but senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj had put her foot down expressing her opposition to any such move.
"What will be our face. We have been fighting against their (Congress') injustices. Now just on the basis of (Sharma's) money power, they want to overpower us, should we allow it," Sharma asked.
He said BJP is known for its ideology and will not allow Venod's entry in either the BJP or the HJC.
"We have told HJC chief Kuldeep Bishnoi in plain terms that we will not like him to be in our parties," he said.
When asked if Bishnoi still decides to go ahead and take Venod Sharma into his party, Sharma said, "if he takes that decision, he will do so at his own risk.
