Complaints against BJP MLA of Dibrugarh in Assam were made today by party aspirants to Union Sports Minister Sabananda Sonowal, who threatened to resign if the sitting legislator was allowed to contest the upcoming Assembly polls.
A closed door meeting was held at Dibrugarh Lok Sabha representative Sarbananda Sonowal's residence here attended by all 12 ticket aspirants of the Assembly segments under Dibrugarh LS constituency, said BJP state co-convenor Dr Siddarth Sarma.
All the 12 ticket seekers alleged Phukan was "tyrannical" and was "running the Dibrugarh Municipal Board as per his will," Sarma said.
DMB ward commissioner Sudama Pandey said the aspirants were united against Prasanta Phukan's candidature unanimously fearing that if ticket was given to the two-time MLA, the BJP would loose the Dibrugarh Assembly seat, he said.
They also threatened that if Prasanta Phukan was given the MLA ticket this time, then all BJP members would resign, Pandey said.
The ticket aspirants attending the meeting included among others, party state spokesperson Sasanka Dev Phukan, state secretary Dr Hemoprabha Borthakur, Dibrugarh district party vice president Ranjit Sarma, Dibrugarh Town Mandal former president Anil Duwarah, ward commissioner Dr Saikat Patra, Dr Siddaharth Sarma, BJP youth leaders Ujjal Phukan and Ujjal Kashyap, he added.
Urging all to work for the party's benefit, the Union Minister assured to take their views seriously and convey their message to BJP'S national leadership, Ujjal Kashyap said.
