By-poll for the Srirangam constituency was necessitated after former Chief Minister and AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa was convicted in a disproportionate assets case.
The poll is scheduled for February 13.
S Valarmathi, joint secretary of AIADMK Tiruchirapalli wing, is the ruling party's candidate while DMK has fielded N Anand who unsuccessfully contested from the same constituency against Jayalalithaa in 2011.
"The district wing and senior state leaders are desirous to contest he bypoll. The details of the candidate will be announced after discussion with alliance parties and with party leadership," BJP Tamil Nadu Unit President Thamizhisai Sounderrajan told reporters here.
