"Sarma is no doubt a powerful and effective leader and his joining the party will definitely have a positive impact," Chakravorty told reporters here.
She said that the party would welcome him whole-heartedly when he joins it once the formalities were over.
Asked about the reported opposition by a section of party workers to Sarma's joining the party, she said that the BJP is a democratic party and allows all its members to express their opinion but it was also a very disciplined party and once a decision is taken, all abide by it.
Chakravorty was a Union minister in the previous NDA government.
