'BJP will instal 'statue of liberation' if it comes to power'

BJP would instal a 'statue of liberation' here to highlight the struggles of those who fought against the Nizam rule for merger with Indian Union when the party comes to power in Telangana, state party president K Laxman said here today.
"The way 'Statue of Unity' of Sardar Patel is being built, similarly, after BJP comes to power in Telangana, we will built a grand symbol in the name of 'Statue of Liberation' in Hyderabad to highlight the sacrifices (in Telangana)," he told reporters.
Laxman was speaking about the just-concluded week-long yatra undertaken by him in the state to highlight the demand to celebrate the merger of erstwhile Nizam State with the Indian Union (on September 17, 1948).

Alleging that the TRS government in Telangana is not celebrating the day of merger officially due to "vote bank politics" and also pressure from MIM, the BJP has launched a campaign to press for the cause.
Dismissing criticism by some rivals to give a communal colour to the yatra, Laxman said Shoiabullah Khan who fought against the Nizam rule belonged to minority community.
BJP would instal a statue of Shoiabullah Khan as well after it came to power in the state, he said.
Stepping up its campaign, BJP would organise protests at the offices of district collectors on September 11, 12 and 13, he said.

A massive public meeting would be held at Nizamabad on September 17 and BJP workers would hoist National Flag in every village on the day, he added.
