The body of the man identified as Sheshnath (31) was found hanging from a tree with his legs in pond water at the India Gate lawns.
The incident raised questions over police patrolling in the high-security zone.
The incident came to light when the body was spotted by passersby early morning. It is suspected that Sheshnath committed suicide last night.
"He was identified by an identity card found on him. He seems to be partially handicapped. The body has been sent for postmortem which would reveal the exact time of death. We have not recovered any suicide note," said a senior police official.
Police will question his family and friends to zero in on the exact cause of the death.
