Oppositonn SAD and BJP today demanded registration of a case against ruling Congress workers for allegedly attacking a Dalit family in Bagga village last month.
A joint SAD-BJP delegation led by SAD general secretary Bikram Singh Majithia, which took the victims - Kashmir Singh and his family members of Bagga village in Majitha before the National Scheduled Caste Commission, demanded immediate action against the accused, according to a statement issued by the SAD.
Majithia said the police had not registered the case despite the incident of alleged stripping and thrashing of Singh taking place on April 17, and the attack on his family on April 29.
The delegation alleged that the modesty of Singh's wife and daughter had also been "outraged" by the Congress workers when they attacked the family.
Commission Director Raj Kumar gave a patient hearing to the SAD-BJP delegation and assured immediate action in the matter, the statement said.
He assured the delegation that cases would be registered against the accused. He also assured he would visit Bagga village along with a team of the Commission, it said.
Kumar also gave a separate hearing to the victims and held a meeting with police officials concerned to know why no action had been taken in the matter till now, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Majithia also met state police chief Suresh Arora to apprise him about "how a public meeting organised by ADGP Law and Order Rohit Chaudhary in Majitha recently had allegedly been hijacked by criminals and known history sheeters".
He said it was unfortunate that "undesirable" elements had been offered front row seats at the meeting.
Majithia said this has sent a wrong message to the public who wanted justice in the Bagga village case, in which a Congress leader had allegedly stripped and thrashed a Dalit, the statement addded.
