Presenting his key-note address at a three-day national conference on 'changing trends in Health Professional Education' here, he referred to various'paradoxes and legislative limitations' in respect of medical education and said "a right time has arrived now for rectifying the shortcomings."
He also pleaded for naming the National Medical Commission Bill 2016 as'National Medical Education Grants Commission Bill 2016' so that there could be parity of medical education on par with other higher education in so far as availability of grants for developmental needswas concerned.
National needs and perspectives as highlighted by the commission were significant and contributed tothe national character of education, he said.
He said enforceability of the policy relating to medical education in a big country like India having 443 medical colleges was very important.
Mishra appealed to medical fraternity to submit their suggestions in respect of the National Medical Commission Bill which was now in public domain.
K R Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, the organisers of the conference was among those who spoke.
