Boy falls into manhole, dies

A four-year-old boy died in a freak accident after he fell into a manhole in Jaitpur area of South-East Delhi, police said today.
The incident took place at around 11:30 pm yesterday when Gurpreet Singh along with his grandmother reached their residence in H block area in an auto rickshaw.
As his grandmother was paying the auto rickshaw driver, Gurpreet ran toward his house, and accidentally fell into the open manhole, a senior police officer said, adding that the area was poorly lit.
Police and fire department officials reached the spot and started rescue operations immediately.
The body was retrieved at around 5:30 am after JCB machines were deployed to dig the area around the manhole, the officer said.

The body was sent for autopsy, and a case of negligence registered against unknown persons though no arrests have been made, the officer said, adding that probe is on.
