A bakery owner allegedly hit a three-year-old boy on the head with a stone for mischievously scratching the counter, causing him to faint upon which he was locked up inside a counter, resulting in his death, police said today.
Rahees Ahmed's son, who was reported missing on Wednesday from Rani Garden area of Geeta Colony, was found the next day in a plastic bag from an isolated place near exit gate of Taj Enclave Society, Rani Garden, said DCP (East) Ajay Kumar.
Mohd Iliyas, the owner of the bakery, and his brother Mohd Ikrar, who helped the former in disposing the body, were arrested in this connection.
According to police, after registration of case, several raids were conducted at different places and more than two hundred persons were thoroughly examined.
"A tip off was received that the boy was last seen at the counter of a bakery in Rani Garden, Delhi. When a police team reached the spot, no counter was found there," said Kumar.
On suspicion, Iliyas was thoroughly interrogated. He broke down and revealed that on Wednesday, he hit the child who was scratching the bakery counter with a stone. The boy suffered head injuries and became unconscious.
"Iliyas then put him inside the counter and closed the door to teach him a lesson. Due to this, the boy succumbed to his injuries. When Iliyas found that he had died, he dumped the body by packing it in a plastic bag at an isolated place at night with the help of Iqrar. Iliyas also sold the counter to destroy the evidence," said Kumar.
On his confession, his younger brother Iqrar was also arrested. He has also corroborated the facts revealed by Iliyas. Both of them are semi-literate, police said.
Police have recovered the bakery counter and the vehicle, which was used in dumping the dead body.
