Panic spread at a school today in Haryana after a 13-year-old boy allegedly made a hoax bomb call to the authority to prevent parent-teacher meeting, police said.
The class VIII student of a private school in Kurukshetra, rang up to the authorities to prevent his parents from taking part in a parent-teacher meeting which was scheduled to be held today, they said.
"We got a call from the school this morning that some unidentified person had rung up to say a bomb has been planted inside the educational institution," Kurukshetra's Superintendent of Police Simardeep Singh said.
"A parent teacher meeting was to get underway in the school in the morning. After a brief interval, the caller repeatedly rang up the school on 3-4 times telling them they should take him seriously. The school authorities immediately called up the police," Singh said.
As the panic grew in the school, police immediately swung into action.
Singh said a heavy police force, bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs were pressed into service and the entire building was vacated and searched thoroughly.
"We searched the premises for nearly three hours, but found nothing. In the meantime, we were also trying to trace the number, which we did," he said, adding, "the caller turned out be a Class VIII boy of the same school who was afraid of coming to the school for the parents-teachers meet".
Investigation revealed that the teachers had recently warned the student for his mischievous behaviour and told him the matter will be taken up in the meeting scheduled today.
Singh, however, said no case has been registered and the student was being given counselling.
