Riding on its collaboration with e-commerce portal Flipkart, consumer electronics maker BPL is looking at a sales turnover of Rs 50 crore from its online business segment this fiscal and hoping to get it doubled by the next year.
BPL had entered into agreement with Flipkart in July this year to sell its consumer durables and appliances. Initially it was selling LED panels, washing machine and refrigerators with a new brand positioning "Experience it".
"During the current financial year, your company expects to achieve a turnover of about Rs 50 crore from Flipkart association... Hopes to double the turnover in the coming year," BPL Chairman and Managing Director Ajit G Nambiar said.
"The product range would gradually expand to include other home appliances products like airconditioners, microwave ovens and LED/solar lamps," Nambiar added.
BPL, which was the market leader in the consumer durable segment in the 90s, said its products have received an overwhelming response from consumers, he said.
BPL reported a total income of Rs 30.55 crore in FY 2014-15 as against Rs 59.69 crore in the previous fiscal.
At present, the company has presence in consumer products, medical technology, home automation and lighting solutions. It expects the e-commerce initiatives and home automation solutions to further rev up its business.
"Company's recent e-commerce initiatives and exclusive tie up with Flipkart for introduction of various consumer durables and home appliances products coupled with other home automation solutions backed by the brand's presence will help the company grow and ease pressure on company's finances," Nambiar added.
He further said BPL Medical Technologies, a group firm has acquired UK-based Penlon Ltd, maker of anaesthesia systems and vaporizers. It has a global distribution network.
"Penlon's product range complements BPL Medical's existing portfolio and helps to expand its presence in the critical care segment," Nambiar said adding the company would continue with its existing management team.
