Along with the Tizu bridge, one of the longest bridge in the state with an overall span of 111.50 metres, a smaller Chizuti bridge with an overall span of 32.30 metres was inaugurated by Minister for Rural Development and REPA, C L John and Minister for School Education and SCERT, Yitachu yesterday.
Tizu bridge is in Laruri village and is located about 270 km from the state capital.
The two bridges were constructed by Nagaland State Mineral Development Corporation with funding of the Ministry of DONER, of the Union government and the state government in the ratio of 90 : 10.
Both the bridges have been constructed for double lane capacity keeping future expansion in mind, he said.
Lauding the efforts of Department of Geology and Mining in connecting the two border villages, the rural development minister said the future prospect of the route is bright as it would be a corridor to South East Asian countries.
He hoped that once the Act East policy is implemented the SE Asian countries would be easily accessible for the Naga people and would help promote trade and commerce with the neighbouring countries.
"This is a step forward to strengthen the linkage between India and Myanmar," he said adding that it would boost trade and business in the area once the linkages are completed.
Having the potentiality of hydro power generation, availability of minerals, opening of foreign trade and commerce, the entire area can become the richest contributor of Nagaland, he added.
