Britain's Minister of State at the Foreign Office Jeremy Browne said "I was very saddened to hear of the lives lost following the sinking of a ferry on the Brahmaputra river in Assam. On behalf of the British Government I extend my deepest condolences to those affected and their families."
"My thoughts are with the people of Assam and India as they come to terms with this tragedy," he added.
