The Border Security Force (BSF) detained five persons and seized gold biscuits worth Rs 22 lakh from them near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya, officials said Saturday.
Acting on intelligence inputs and observing suspicious movements the alert BSF troops intercepted a vehicle on Friday, a BSF spokesperson here said in a statement.
The gold biscuits were recovered from the possession of the detained persons, it said, adding that they were estimated to be worth Rs 22 lakh.
The BSF handed over the detained persons to the police who arrested them.
Meanwhile, three persons were apprehended by BSF in South Garo Hills district for smuggling 190 kg of fresh fishes, the BSF official said.
