A massive modernisation plan for BSF was being made at a budgetary support of Rs 4,000 crore, and the work on it has already begun, Joshi said here last evening.
Eight new choppers would be added to the BSF's air wing and firing range would be modernised along the border, the DG told reporters during a two-day visit.
Whenever there was an intrusion from across the Pakistan border, BSF sternly acted and contained it, Joshi said.
The DG also said the BSF had named Indian cricketer, Virat Kohli as their brand ambassador, a first in the force.
Earlier, on his arrival Joshi inspected some of the outposts and encouraged jawans to do their jobs with dedication and commitment.
He also inaugurated a filtration plant and pipelines to provide potable water to BSF people including jawans posted on outposts.
The DG was accompanied by the special DG of BSF-West Rajdeep Singh.
