BSP demands JPC probe in chopper scam

Raising strong objections to the CBI inquiry in the purchase of VVIP helicopters, BSP today demanded a JPC probe to find out those who received bribes.
BSP chief Mayawati also demanded immediate formation of Telangana, saying the demand was "justified" and said the Centre should consider other demands for separate states coming from various parts of the country.
"The matter pertaining to allegations of payment of kickbacks in the purchase of VVIP helicopters is very serious. Though the matter has been unearthed in Italy, government is taking steps to punish the guilty in the scam.
"There is need for strict action against those who accept bribes, but a CBI probe into the deal is not acceptable to many political parties. Thus a JPC in this matter is necessary so that all parties together may find out the truth," Mayawati said.

She also criticised President Pranab Mukherjee's address to a joint session of Parliament today as "disappointing" and said the common man in the country will not benefit from whatever has been listed in the address.
"Though this is the last budget of the UPA government, the experience of this government in helping the common man is quite disappointing," Mayawati said.

She went on to say that there was a sense of "disappointment" in today's address by the President and said, "There is a crisis of credibility in this government as its policies are by and large 'anti-poor' and 'pro-capitalist'."
On the issue of bringing an Ordinance on women safety, Mayawati said the same should be brought in Parliament as soon as possible for making it into a law to ensure safety for women and said the suggestions coming from various members during discussion on the issue in Parliament should also be incorporated.

Mayawati also called for steps to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament.
