BSP Supremo Mayawati today expelled former party MLA Mohammad Shahzad for allegedly hobnobbing with BJP.
Announcing the decision at Roorkee near here, Uttarakhand Pradesh BSP president Satish Kumar said apart from Shahzad, his younger brothers Mohammad Sattar, Amir Azam and sister-in-law Anjum Beghum have also been expelled from the party.
All four leaders have been removed from the party on disciplinary grounds for hobnobbing with BJP, he said.
The BSP supremo's action against the former party MLA and his relatives is understood to have been taken after Shahzad's younger brother Sattar, who was party candidate for the post of Zila Adhyaksha, took BJP's support.
Pradesh BJP president Ajay Bhatt had announced in Haridwar on May 9 that the party would support Sattar for the post of Zila Adhyaksha.
Party sources said Sattar and his elder brother Shahzad's decision to take BJP's support, a day ahead of a floor test in the state Assembly on May 10, had not gone down well with the party supremo.
Upset with Sattar, BSP withdrew its candidate from the fray at the last minute which led to Congress candidate Savita Chaudhry's unopposed election as Zila Adhyaksha.
When contacted, Shahzad alleged money decides everything in BSP.
He also accused Pradesh BSP president Satish Kumar and in-charge of party affairs in Uttarakhand, Nasimuddin Siddiqui of supporting the Congress candidate.
