"We did not summon them for questioning. They had come on their own to join investigation. As of now, they are not suspects in the case," said a senior Delhi Police official reacting to Aleem and his brothers Haji Shageer and Haji Yonus reaching the Welcome Police Station and joining the probe.
According to police sources, Aleem was questioned for about two and half hours at Welcome Police Station about the status of his recent relations with Rehana and whether he had suspicion on anybody in the case.
Earlier in the day, Haji Aleem, an MLA from Bulandshahr, did not turn up for questioning saying he was busy with the last rituals of his wife in Bulandshahar.
Meanwhile, a police official said they spoke to the family members of Rehana, including her brother, but they did not suspect anyone behind the crime.
A police source also said they were examining the phone call details of seven persons, including family members of the deceased, to get a breakthrough in the case.
The official rubbished media reports that Rehana had filed a case of domestic violence against Aleem with the Woman Cell of Krishna Nagar Police Station.
The official said that before her murder, Rehana had last spoken to her sister Farzana and she spoke about family affairs and nothing serious was discussed, police said.
