Around 12,000 members of the Bugti tribe have refused to end a sit-in on the Balochistan-Punjab highway, claiming that they have been denied entry into Dera Bugti in the troubled southwestern province.
Shahzain Bugti, the grandson of slain leader of the Bugti tribe Nawab Akbar Bugti, told reporters that they would not end their protest until Balochistan Chief Minister meets them.
"We are being denied entry into our own homeland and area by the government and we will not turn back until we are given assurances by the CM this will not happen again," he said.
He claimed that nearly 150,000 Bugti tribesman had left Dera Bugti in 2005 following the military operation there during the Pervez Musharraf government.
"We decided to return to our homes only after being given assurance by the government but now they are backing out again," Shahzain said.
He said his convoy included refugees of the Bugti tribe from different parts of the country.
