Bulk heads to prevent siltation of bar mouth at Vettar

The newly constructed landing centre for fishing boats at Nagore in Nagapattinam district would be made more secure with a project to build breakwaters to prevent siltation of the bar mouth of Vettar.
According to an official note, the landing centre is being used since early this month but fishing boats could not navigate through the Vettar bar mouth due to siltation.
Under the project, 330 metre long breakwaters(bulkhead) would be built which would make the harbour more secured.
The break water project under modernisation of coastal inlet of vettar was being funded by the NABARD under rural infrastructure development scheme for which IIT-Chennai will be the consultant, it said.
