The presence of mind of a 48-year-old driver of a luxury bus averted a major mishap, as he brought the vehicle to a halt moments before dying of a cardiac arrest on an arterial road here today.
The deceased, C Sampath, was driving the bus with 13 crew members of a private airline to a city hotel when he experienced severe chest pain near a grade separator on the GST Road, police said.
He, however, managed to steer the bus and bring it to a halt safely near a bus stop and collapsed. One of the airline crew members called the ambulance service.
The paramedics in the ambulance, however, said the driver had died.
