A senior police officer said the body of Tarun Pan (45), who was a building materials supplier and owner of a fast food stall in the area, was found on the side of Durgapur Expressway in Dhapsaria locality this morning.
Pan was missing since last midnight and the body bore bullet wounds.
TMC local unit President Shailo Ghosh claimed Pan was an active member of the party, member of local school committee and popular in the area.
The police officer, however, said there were reports of Pan being linked with members of a racket of opium sellers in the area and police were probing all angles.
The incident was preceded by the recent shootout at Rishra rail gate in the district in which two persons were injured and another firing incident at Dadpur in the district in which two sustained bullet injuries.
Both incidents happened in past one week and there had been no arrests.
