The skirmish took place in the forests under Khadgaon police station area when a joint team of Indo-Tibetan Border Police and district police force was conducting counter-insurgency operation based on inputs about movement of ultras, a police official said.
When security forces were advancing through forests between Angara and Narangsur, around 100 km from district headquarters, they came under heavy fire leading to the gun-battle, he said.
However, ultras soon escaped taking advantage of the forest cover and the rough terrain, he said.
Bloodstainsfoundatthespot indicated that some of rebels were injured but their colleagues took them away, the official said, adding that the rebels involved in the incident belonged to Dallirajhra Area Committee of Maoists.
A combing operation was launched in the area to trace the attackers, the officer said.
