Justice Dipankar Dutta, hearing a writ petition in connection with the murder of Sagar Ghosh at Parui in Birbhum district, directed that if the CID did not show remarkable progress in investigation by the next date of hearing, he might think of transferring the case to another investigating agency.
Justice Dutta expressed displeasure at the CID's shoddy progress as it had not conducted any identification parade and had not arrested the accused persons based on the statement of the complainant.
Justice Dutta fixed the next date of hearing on February 10.
The high court had on December 23 ordered the CID to investigate murder charges against Birbhum district Trinamool Congress president Anubrata Mondal and 40 others, accused in the killing of Ghosh after the panchayat polls.
Ghosh was shot on July 21 last year at his home and succumbed to his injuries at a hospital two days later.
He had won a seat in the panchayat polls as an independent after being denied ticket by the Trinamool Congress.
