Canada is keen on investing in Haryana in areas such as civil aviation, defence and smart city projects, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said today.
"Canada has evinced keen interest in investing in Haryana. Follow-up meetings would be held to facilitate investment by Canadian companies in Haryana which would help create job opportunities. This would benefit both countries," Khattar told reporters here.
He was speaking after meeting Canadian Minister of National Defence Harjit Singh Sajjan at Chandigarh International Airport here today.
Referring to the meeting with Sajjan, the chief minister said discussion was held on two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed during the latter's visit to Canada in 2015.
It was decided to set up a working group to ensure implementation of the MoU on horticulture which would be executed jointly by Haryana and Canada, Khattar informed.
The chief minister apprised Sajjan of the progress made by Haryana in various fields.
"Haryana has been made kerosene-free. To achieve this goal, the government has provided more than six lakh LPG connections. Apart from this, the state has made installation of rooftop solar systems mandatory," he said.
Khattar told the Canadian Minister that when the present state government came to power, the sex ratio at birth was 840 girls per 1,000 boys, which has now crossed 900-mark.
Strict action was being taken against those involved in sex determination and so far, more than 300 cases have been registered, he told the visiting dignitary.
Sajjan lauded the state government for this achievement and said, "I gather that other states have also expressed the intention to follow the measures adopted by the Haryana government."
The Canadian leader said Haryana had achieved unprecedented development and growth.
Canadian High Commissioner to India, Nadir Patel, Consul General of Canada in Chandigarh, Christopher Gibbins and some senior officials of the state government were also present.
