A51-year-old woman attempted suicide after reportedly being harassed by a congress legislator at nearby Balaramapuram today, police said today.
The woman who allegedly consumed sleeping pills was admitted to a hospital at Neyyatinkara near here, police said.
A case has been registered against MLA M Vincent, representing Kovalam segment, for abetment of suicide, they said.
The woman's husband alleged that the MLA used to call her over phone repeatedly and harass her.
However, Vincent has termed the charges as "baseless" and said he would face the probe.
"Charges are without any facts," Vincent told PTI.
Meanwhile, a police press release said that considering the seriousness of the allegation that a sitting MLA has misbehaved with a woman, state DGP Lok Nath Behra has entrusted the Kollam City police commissioner Ajeetha Begum with leading the investigation into it.
