In his complaint, supported with photographs, to the city Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan, Dinesh said one Biji beat the dog which barked at him at Ramakrishnapuram last night.
Despite repeated pleas, Biji continued to beat the animal, he said.
Police rushed to the area and took the bleeding dog to the veterinary hospital.
They are on the look out for Biji.
