Cash crunch: Delhi govt to seek green tax exemption for trucks

The Delhi government will move court seeking exemption of the 'green tax' levied on trucks entering the national capital till December 31,as transporters face a shortage of cash in the wake of demonetisation of high value currency notes.
The decision was taken today at a meeting of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal with transporters at his residence here.
"In the meeting, the Chief Minister assured about 200 transporters that government will move court seeking its directions not to impose green tax on trucks entering in Delhi till December 31.
"The CM's assurance came after transporters told him that they are facing problem in paying green tax at borders due to cash crunch," AAP's Trade Wing (Delhi) convenor Brijesh Goyal said.

In the meeting, the transporters told Kejriwal that about 80 per cent of their business is cash-based, Goyal said.
The Supreme Court had last year imposed Environmental Compensation Charge (ECC) of Rs 700 and Rs 1300 on small and large commercial vehicles respectively entering Delhi, in addition to the toll tax, from November 1.
