The crime branch of Gurgaon Police has arrested the kingpin of a cattle smuggling gang, who had recently evaded arrest by jumping into the NSG campus in Manesar, a senior police officer said today.
"The accused, identified as Saraju, is a resident of Ghasada Village at Nuh. He was arrested on Monday night from a cremation ground at Mewat," ACP (PRO) of Gurgaon Police Manish Sehgal said.
A country-made pistol was recovered from his possession. He was arrested when he had come to meet his associates, he said.
"On questioning, Saraju told police that he and his five accomplices had jumped inside the NSG campus to evade arrest after firing at a police party which intercepted their vehicle on February 7," Sehgal said.
Police were looking for his accomplices, the officer said.
