CBI arrests top Central Excise official for accepting bribe

A Superintendent of Central Excise at Khamgaon in Buldana district has been arrested by the CBI for allegedly demanding as well as accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh, an official statement said.
It was alleged that the Superintendent of Central Excise had demanded a Rs 5 lakh bribe from him for not imposing penalty or excise duty on a plant owned by the complainant, a CBI release said here today.
Accordingly, the CBI registered a case and laid a trap yesterday after which the accused was caught red handed while demanding and accepting Rs 1 lakh which was supposed to be the first instalment of the bribe from the complainant, the release said.
Searches were conducted at the office and residential premises of the accused which yielded incriminating documents, the release said.
The accused was arrested, produced before court and remanded to judicial custody, the release said.
