CBI books Ground Water Board scientist for graft

The CBI has booked a scientist of the Central Ground Water Board and a technician of the Institute of Microbial Technology for allegedly taking bribe of around Rs 2 lakh from industrialists to issue no-objection certificates for industrial use of ground water.
Sanjay Pandey, scientist at the Board which functions under the water resources ministry, and technician Chander Prakash Midha of the IMT, a body under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, are named in the FIR.
The FIR has said both connived to get money from industries in Haryana and Punjab.
The applications were allegedly forwarded through a regional CGWB officer along with recommendations for issuing the NOC to use ground water for industrial purposes, the FIR said.

The duo allegedly helped one Swaraj Kandoi and his employee Dinesh Kumar in getting NOC for Kandoi's water packaging business in lieu of Rs 2 lakh bribe of which Rs 50,000 was delivered on Tuesday by Dinesh Kumar.
CGWB is responsible for regulating the use of ground water and issuance of NOCs to various private and government institutions.
