CBI finds property records worth crores of rupees from IRS

CBI has found documents related to six properties worth crores of rupees allegedly belonging to Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax M Logapathy who was arrested yesterday by the agency on bribery charges.
CBI sources said the documents related to a flat in upmarket Green Park locality in South Delhi, two shops in Karol Bagh, two houses in Pondicherry and a house in Chennai were found during searches at the residence of Logapathy, an IRS officer of 2008 batch.
The sources said the agency has also recovered documents of bank lockers which are in the process of being opened even as the agency plans to start proceedings under disproportionate assets case against the officer.
CBI yesterday arrested Logapathy, his personal attendant Abhishek Kumar along with an alleged middleman Hitesh Kumar, businessman Vikas Singla for in a case of alleged bribery.
The sources said Logapathy had allegedly demanded and received Rs 1.5 lakh from Hitesh Kumar in a case of alleged evasion against Singla who runs a steel firm.
Durign questioning of the arrested persons, it came to light that Logapathy was allegedly taking one per cent of the tax demand as commission for settling the tax issues.
Giving details of the operation, the sources said Kumar and Logapathy were under the scanner of the agency for quite some time and CBI was keeping an active surveillance on them listening to their conversations through phone intercepts and other means.
