CBI registers a new inquiry against former Sagar University VC

The CBI has started a fresh inquiry against a former Vice-Chancellor, faculty members and officials of Hari Singh Gaur Central University in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district for alleged irregularities in awarding tenders.
CBI sources said the role of a former VC, two faculty members and some official was the focus of the preliminary enquiry registered by it recently.
Also, a firm from Bhopal was under scanner of the agency in connection with the inquiry.
CBI is suspecting that excess payments were made to the beneficiary contractor while installing over 200 computers and CD writers in the University, the sources said.

A clarification in this regard will soon be sought from the varsity administration, they added.
The agency had already registered several FIRs related to alleged irregularities in the University administration.
In May this year, CBI registered three cases naming the former Vice-Chancellor and others. Besides a case of alleged disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 2.54 crore (approx) was also registered against the Vice-Chancellor who is presently posted in Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur.
