The agency has registered a case of alleged murder on the request of the Uttar Pradesh government.
"It was alleged that Neeraj Bhadana, a medico student of MBBS (first year) of a University in Moradabad was found dead on July 6, 2013 on the ground opposite her hostel veranda," CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad said here today.
She said parents of the deceased were informed at 8.30 PM on July 6, 2013 about her sickness and at 12.30 midnight about her death when they were on way to Moradabad.
Hailing from Faridabad in Haryana, Bhadana was the first-year MBBS student at the University.
The police intially worked on the theory of suicide but the post-mortem revealed that death was due to strangulation which led to case of murder.
CBI sources said they would soon call University authorities for questioning and would also meet the doctors who carried out the autopsy of Bhadana.
