"A 15-member CBI team has arrived here for the probe. We are giving them necessary documents," Superintendent of Police L R Kumar said.
Two weeks after the bodies of the cousin sisters were found hanging from a mango tree at a village in Badaun, about 300 kilometres from the state capital Lucknow, CBI took over the probe from the Uttar Pradesh Police yesterday.
CBI has mentioned in its FIR that the state police did not act when people approached them with the complaint of girls being kidnapped.
The two girls, aged 14 and 15 years, were allegedly gang-raped and murdered and their bodies were found hanging from a tree a day after they went missing on May 27 in a village in the Ushait area in Badaun.
