CBSE blues: Students-parents protest agnst 'faulty' results in Odisha

The protest against alleged discrepancies in CBSE Class-XII results intensified today with the students' wings of political parties joining the stir, even as a team from the board's headquarters arrived here to sort out the issue.
The Board officials said the issue will be resolved in 15 days.
Meanwhile, the activists of the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) and the National Students' Union of India joined the protest outside the CBSE's regional office here.
As the slogan-shouting demonstrators holding placards and banners demanded immediate re-evaluation of answer-sheets and declaration of withheld results, some BCJD workers tried to forcibly enter the premises of the CBSE regional office.

A brief scuffle took place when the policemen present at the spot stopped the activists from entering the office.
Demanding immediate steps to resolve the issue, activists of the NSUI burnt tyres and an effigy of Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar.

Meanwhile, two senior officials from the CBSE's head office, who were deputed by Javadekar to sort out the issue, held discussion with officials of the Bhubaneswar region office, which covers the states of Odisha, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh.
The problem of the students would be looked into by 10 teams to be formed at the board's regional centres, a CBSE official said.

Steps have been taken to resolve the issue in 15 days, said CBSE assistant secretary Jagabandhu Pradhan. He, however, made it clear that there was no provision of re-evaluation of papers and only photocopies of answer sheets can be provided to the students who make a request for the same.
Later in the evening, the students and their parents met Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Scores of students from schools under the Bhubaneswar region of the CBSE have alleged that they had secured poor marks due to faulty evaluation, while many others claimed their results were withheld without citing any reason.

Concerned over the manner in which the CBSE XII Board results were announced, Patnaik had yesterday sent a letter to Javadekar seeking his intervention for providing relief to the affected students and parents.
"I would request you to kindly look into the matter personally and issue appropriate directions to the CBSE authorities to rectify the situation in order to provide relief to the affected students on an urgent basis," he had said.
Stating that the results of 12th standard published by CBSE suffered from "gross discrepancies", Patnaik said the students and parents were shocked at the manner in which the same were announced.

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had also met the aggrieved students yesterday and taken up the matter with Javadekar for an early solution.
