Tea-to-batteries major Eveready Industries India today said the additional director general of Competition Commission has collected "certain business related information" but the company is unaware of the purpose.
Competition Commission of India (CCI) keeps a tab on unfair business practices across sectors and the Director General's (DG) office is its investigation arm.
"The Additional DG, CCI did visit our office on August 23, 2016 and ascertained in respect of certain business related information of the company," the company said in a filing to the BSE.
Company officials cooperated and responded to "all such queries as were raised by him and his staff during such visit", it added.
According to the filing, the company was awaiting further information from the Additional DG.
"We are not aware about the nature or purpose of the collection of the aforesaid facts by the Additional DG including investigation of the same thereof...," it said.
When contacted, a top company official said he cannot comment on a regulatory issue.
The DG has powers to carry out inspection as part of investigating cases to ascertain whether there have been violations of competition norms.
The city-based Eveready Industries is a leading player in the markets for batteries and flashlights.
Shares of the company fell 1.31 per cent to close at Rs 275.20 on the BSE.
