Saddled with a huge staff crunch, fair trade regulator CCI is looking to beef up its headcount by hiring people for different positions and also engage professionals on short-term basis in various departments.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has invited applications from candidates for engagement of 23 research associates/professionals in the field of law, economics and financial analysis to assist the regulator in discharging its functions.
Besides, the Commission has sought applications for 28 posts including directors, joint directors and deputy directors, office manager and private secretary.
In recent times, the watchdog has been making efforts to strengthen its manpower amid a rising number of complaints related to alleged unfair business practices received by it.
In addition, CCI gets notices seeking approval for mergers and acquisitions.
A parliamentary panel, in its report in March, said that Commission is "extremely under-staffed".
"Considering its huge workload... The Commission is extremely under-staffed with only 114 officers in position as against the sanctioned strength of 197 posts," the panel had said.
The issue of staff crunch at the regulator has been flagged by the Standing Committee on Finance in its report on the Demands for Grants (2017-18) of the Corporate Affairs Ministry.
Spelling out the eligibility criteria for research associates/professionals, CCI said that applicants should be dynamic and self-motivated professionals with effective analytical, communication (including technical writing) and interpersonal skills.
Initially, they will be required for a period of one year which can be further extended as per requirements.
"The level of the research associates will be determined not only on the basis of experience and educational qualifications but also on the basis of the overall performance of the candidate during his/her interview," the regulator said.
CCI, which keeps a tab on unfair business practices across sectors, has sought application for 23 positions in the professional staff category -- 4 directors, 8 joint directors and 11 deputy directors.
Besides, in the support staff category, two posts for joint director, one each for principle private secretary, private secretary and office manger are to be filled.
These candidates will be required in the field of financial analysis, economics, law and finance and accounts.
The appointments will be on a deputation basis.
