The Home Ministry has introduced the scheme called the Central Victim Compensation Fund (CVCF) with initial corpus of Rs 200 crore to support victims of various attacks.
The key objectives of the scheme are: to support and supplement the existing victim compensation schemes notified by state governments and Union Territory administrations, to reduce disparity in quantum of compensation amount notified by different states and UTs for victims of similar crimes.
The fund will encourage states and UTs to effectively implement the Victim Compensation Scheme (VCS) notified by them under the provisions of Section 357A of CrPC and continue financial support to victims of various crimes especially sexual offences including rape, acid attacks, crime against children, human trafficking, etc, an official release said.
Women victims of cross-border attacks suffering permanent or partial disability or death will also be compensated under the Central Victim Compensation Fund Scheme.
States have been requested to suitably modify their victim compensation schemes to reduce disparity in quantum of relief amount notified by them and claim financial support from the Central Victim Compensation Fund Scheme.
