Union Rural Development ministry has considered the approval of Rs 400 crore to Arunachal Pradesh for undertaking construction of roads under Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
The ministry in its meeting held on November 18 last has considered proposal worth Rs 400 crore for a length of 421 km under PMGSY for Arunachal Pradesh, official sources said here.
The ministry considered Rs 400 crore worth proposal out of the Rs 801 crore proposal submitted by the state government, the sources said.
The ministry, taking into all aspects, advised the state that the balance proposal may be submitted in January next year which, would be again considered by the Empowered Committee.
Earlier this year, the ministry had sanctioned 97 roads and 31 long span bridges at a cost of Rs 897 crore covering length of 1190 km under the PMGSY, the sources said.
Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, who is currently in New Delhi, on receipt of the information, expressed gratefulness to the ministry headed by Jairam Ramesh for the gesture.
"Arunachal Pradesh is the only state in the country, which has no inter-connectivity within its districts and between districts in several places even today. PMGSY is the only means to bring in connectivity in remote and rural areas and we are grateful to the Centre for bestowing us with it," he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Tuki yesterday met Union Minister of State for Finance J D Seelam and requested him for early release of the special plan assistance (SPA) fund for expediting developmental activities in the state.
Seelam who was accompanied by his joint secretary assured the Chief Minister of early release of the fund, sources added.
