Union Minister Kiren Rijiju today said that in view of the communication bottlenecks faced by Arunachal Pradesh, the Centre is contemplating about two ambitious road projects in the state.
"I am going to take up two ambitious road projects in the state and have requested the state government to send proposals, including (about) a road in the foothill areas, from Bhairab Kund, the tri-junction of Bhutan, Assam and Arunachal, to Ruksin in East Siang district," he told a press conference.
"Another road will come up along the McMohan line, from Mago-Thingbu in Tawang to Vijaynagar in Changlang district, to connect all border areas," the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs said.
Rijiju said Union Minister of Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has entrusted him with the responsibility to look after the road projects in all the North East states except Assam, and accordingly he had proposed to undertake these projects for overall economic development of the state.
"We will make financial provision within the current fiscal for undertaking survey, investigation and preparation of detailed project report (DPR) for the Bhairab Kund-Ruksin Road so that it could be taken up in the next financial year," Rijiju said adding that the road would serve as an industrial corridor for people residing in the foothill areas of the state.
The move comes in the wake of the state Assembly passing a resolution during its budget session last month for construction of the said road.
About the Mago-Vijaynagar Road, Rijiju disclosed that construction of the road would be a big challenge considering the rough and hostile terrain through which it would pass.
"The road has been planned considering the large-scale migration of people from border areas and the need to push them back by creating all basic amenities to make them comfortable," Rijiju said.
The minister said he would soon convene a meeting with all the stakeholders including representatives from the Army, BRTF and Telecom to give a final shape to the project.
