Asserting that the Centre was taking all measures to reduce the impact of price rise, including that of petroleum products, on the economy, Union Minister of State for Finance Jesudasu Seelam today said the situation would improve soon.
"My senior colleague P Chidambaram (Finance Minister) has initiated various measures to reduce the impact (of price rise) on the economy. These measures have started showing results and the situation would improve soon," he said.
He was replying to a question from reporters on increase in petrol prices in last one month and public resentment over it.
When asked about the proposed hike in gas prices, he said that this should not be taken as an isolated issue. "We are trying to overcome all the hurdles," he said.
Seelam, here to attend the convocation of private Karunya University, exuded confidence that the UPA Government would come back to power and continue its pro-people initiatives like RTI and RTE to reduce the socio-economic gaps.
He said Congress would take up right to health once it returned to power. It would codify all health related missions, like rural and urban health mission, and put up a strong bill for Right to Health.
To a question on Telangana, the Minister, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, said Congress High Command was considering various option and holding discussions with all stakeholders.
The issue cannot be dragged for long, as this was a matter of progress, development and human relationship of the state, he said expressing hope that it would be settled amicably.
On the much talked about comparison between Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Seelam said "you cannot equate both."
Rahul Gandhi stands for positive, while Modi does not stand for positive. I don't think people, for that matter, any sensible person, would want to support Modi".
