Asish Saha, a senior leader and a legislator was appointed as the Working President of the party.
Hrankhawl succeeds the incumbent President, Sudip Roy Burman.
Party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi sent a signed letter appointing Hrankhawl and Saha as President and working President of TPCC, party sources said adding Hrankhawl is the second tribal leader to head the TPCC after Manmohan Debbarma, who became President in 1971.
The opposition Congress secured only 10 seats in the 60-member assembly poll in Tripura held in February 14 last.
The Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT), a coalition partner of Congress could not secure a single seat in the election.
The ruling Left Front secured 50 seats in the 60-member house.
