Seeking to placate UPA ally DMK which has threatened to pull out of Union Cabinet over plight of Sri Lankan Tamils, Union Minister V Narayanasamy today said a final decision on a US resolution on the issue will be taken keeping in mind the emotions of people of Tamil Nadu.
"In Tamil Nadu, the issue is very emotive and sensitive for the people and political parties. Therefore, the DMK and its leader M Karunanidhi has mentioned the sentiments on that," he told reporters here.
He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will "definitely consider all these aspects" and take a decision in this regard.
Threatening to pull out from the Union Cabinet, the DMK chief has said India should press for amendments to the US resolution in the UNHCR to demand an independent international probe into the alleged genocide that took place in Sri Lanka.
With 18 MPs in Lok Sabha, the DMK has one Union minister and four ministers of state in the Union council of ministers.
Narayanasamy said the Prime Minister has already informed Parliament that the government is committed to protection of Sri Lankan Tamils.
