Addressing the annual press conference to present crime statistics, Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale attributed it to concerted efforts by his force, adding that the detection rate of chain snatching cases stood at 52 per cent for 2017.
He added that cases of cheating also saw a dip with 394 cases being registered in 2017 against 563 in 2015 and 410 in 2016.
Nagrale said that cases of murder hovered around the 40 mark, like the years in the past, and 2017 saw 43 murder cases being registered. He added that 93 per cent of all these cases got detected.
"Motor cycle theft cases have come down from 468 in 2016 to 380 in 2017. Fatal accident cases had dropped from 367 in 2015 to 339 in 2016 and to 282 in 2017," he said.
